Art Print Size Guide: A5 to A1 in Inches

Compare A-series art print dimensions in inches, measure your wall, and choose a frame that fits your unframed paper print.

Choosing a print size means checking both the wall space and the frame opening. Our US art prints use A-series dimensions, which differ from common US frame sizes. Prints are supplied unframed on 200gsm enhanced matte paper, with no hanger or mounting supplies included.

A5 to A1 print dimensions in inches

The measurements below describe the paper itself. Inch conversions are approximate; use the millimeter dimensions when checking a precise fit. For landscape artwork, swap the width and height.

  • A5: 148 x 210 mm, approximately 5.83 x 8.27 inches.
  • A4: 210 x 297 mm, approximately 8.27 x 11.69 inches.
  • A3: 297 x 420 mm, approximately 11.69 x 16.54 inches.
  • A2: 420 x 594 mm, approximately 16.54 x 23.39 inches.
  • A1: 594 x 841 mm, approximately 23.39 x 33.11 inches.

Will A4 fit an 8 x 10 frame?

An A4 print is wider and taller than an 8 x 10 inch opening. It will not fit without trimming, which changes the artwork. An A3 print is also wider than an 11 x 17 inch opening. Choose a frame specified for the exact A-series size, or a larger frame with a mat cut to suit the print. Check the frame manufacturer's insert dimensions and the mat's visible opening: the outside frame size does not tell you what fits inside.

Choose a size for the room

A5 and A4 work well on shelves, in compact corners, or as part of a grouped display. A3 is useful above a desk or console when you want a print with more presence. A2 and A1 suit a larger open wall. Measure the available area before buying: an A1 print is about 23.39 inches wide in portrait orientation, and its frame adds more width.

Above a sofa or bed, plan the total width of the arrangement rather than assuming one A-series print will fill the space. A group of individual prints can cover a wider area. Leave consistent gaps, and use paper templates or painter's tape appropriate for your wall surface to preview the arrangement.

Check the artwork crop

A-series sizes share the same proportion. A photograph with a different shape may need cropping in the custom builder. Keep faces, text, and signatures clear of the edge, and check the preview before ordering. Frames and mats can cover a small part of the paper edge, so check their opening as well as the print dimensions.

Order the print and frame separately

Room mockups show styling ideas; any pictured frame is not part of the US print offer. Browse unframed art prints, explore wall art by style, or print your own photograph. Product pages show current USD prices, and our shipping page explains delivery times and charges.
