How to Display Unframed Art Prints Without Drilling
Choose a frame or paper-safe display method for a matte art print, check the wall surface, and follow mounting instructions before hanging.
Our US prints arrive unframed on matte paper. A frame, hanger, adhesive, or other mounting supplies are not included. Choose your display method after checking the print dimensions and the surface where you want to place it.
Start with a shelf or console
A separately purchased frame can stand on a shelf or console without attaching anything to the wall. Choose a stable surface and a frame intended for that use. Keep the display away from places where children, pets, or everyday movement could knock it over. A compact A5 or A4 print can work well when wall space is limited.
Use a correctly sized frame
A-series prints differ from common US inch sizes. For example, A4 is approximately 8.27 x 11.69 inches, so an 8 x 10 inch frame is too small. Our art print size guide lists A5 to A1 dimensions and explains how to check the opening of a frame or mat.
Check adhesive frame-strip instructions
If you use adhesive picture-hanging strips, buy a product rated for the weight and dimensions of the complete frame. Follow its instructions for compatible wall surfaces, cleaning, application, waiting time, and removal. Fresh paint, wallpaper, textured finishes, humidity, and weak surfaces can affect performance. No adhesive method guarantees damage-free removal on every wall.
Do not assume strips designed for a frame are suitable for direct contact with printed paper. Ordinary double-sided tape can tear the sheet, leave residue, or mark the artwork. Check paper compatibility before applying any adhesive to a print.
Consider a paper-safe hanger
A separately purchased poster hanger or clip system may suit an unframed sheet. Check that it matches the print width and is intended for paper. Magnetic poster hangers clamp paper between their own bars; they are different from magnetic wall mounts for metal prints.
Plan before mounting
Measure the print, frame, gaps, and surrounding furniture before fixing the display. Avoid splash zones, prolonged direct sunlight, and places where the print could be knocked down. Browse matte paper art prints and choose the size that suits your space.
